Special Education

For students with disabilities who qualify for special education services,  Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) are developed and tailored to each student’s specific needs. These IEPs include specially designed instruction and related services to support academic success. We believe in educating students in the least restrictive environment possible, and our special education programs are structured to meet the diverse needs of our learners.

Our students receive their academic instruction in inclusive classrooms, where they are taught by both a general educator and a special educator or paraprofessional. This collaborative approach ensures that all students have the support they need to engage with the curriculum. In addition, Academic Support is available as a related service for students who meet the criteria, and it is delivered by a special educator to provide specially designed instruction to address disability related skill deficits.

We also offer a wide range of related services to support our students, including Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Counseling, and other services outlined in their IEPs. Our dedicated team of special education professionals includes special education teachers, paraprofessionals, speech-language pathologists, speech-language pathologist assistants, and school psychologists. Additionally, we contract with external providers for specialized services such as Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Teachers for the Visually Impaired and Deaf.

At Essex North Shore, we are committed to ensuring that all students receive the support and resources they need to thrive. Our guidance counselors, school adjustment counselors, and school nurses are also available to offer assistance and ensure the well-being of every student.

We are proud of our inclusive approach to education and our dedication to meeting the unique needs of all learners.
